Panama hosts forum of environment ministers during climate week

Panama City, Oct 23 (Prensa Latina) Panama will host the 23rd Meeting of the Forum of Ministers of the Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) coinciding with the climate week.

According to the organizing committee, the event will run until October 27th and will provide a space for governments to establish priorities for environmental action.

The hybrid format of the forum will represent an opportunity to resume regional and subregional collaboration in the interests of sustainable development which leaves no one behind and speeds the response to the triple global environmental crisis (climate change, loss of biodiversity and pollution).

The 2023 edition will be preceded by the High-Level Officials Meeting on October 24th and the 25th, and by the Regional Consultative Meeting for Civil Society, at the offices of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).

High-level representatives of the governments of the region, secretariats of multilateral environmental agreements, research and academic organizations, civil society organizations, and regional and global development collaboration institutions will participate in the event.

Topics such as water security and resilience during the El Niño weather phenomenon stand out on the agenda, in addition to regional cooperation for the sustainable management of the oceans, among others.

In this edition, the Forum will be held in parallel with the Latin American and Caribbean Climate Week, organized by the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which will allow exploring other ways with the work that is carried out under this multilateral agreement.
