Nicaragua allocates 2024 budget to social investment

Managua, Oct 20 (Prensa Latina) The Minister of Finance and Public Credit, Iván Acosta, reported that the largest resources in Nicaragua's general budget, for the year 2024, are focused on social investments and productive infrastructure.

During the presentation of the annual bill for the general budget of the Republic in the National Assembly, Acosta expressed that healthcare, education, the fight against poverty and public investment are priorities.

The functionary explained that the education sector will have an investment of 26 billion córdobas (about 71,135,000 dollars), while 24 billion córdobas (some 65,663,000 dollars) will be allocated to health. He added that 37.5 percent of social spending is directed to both sectors.

“61 percent of the budget is directed to the fight against poverty, which is equivalent to 81,758 million córdobas (223,688,000 dollars), with internal resources that correspond to 61 billion (166,894,000 dollars) and external to 20 billion (54,719,000 dollars)”, he highlighted.

According to Acosta, over 51 billion córdobas (139,534,000 dollars) will be conveyed to the public investment program next year, a historic number for the country. “This budget also allocates resources to protect employment and also a five percent salary increase in the public sector,” he noted.

According to the information disclosed, income is estimated at 138,634 million córdobas (3,792,000,000 dollars) and expenses are around 133,804.7 million (about 3,660,000,000 dollars).
