The meeting, which lasted just over an hour, covered issues of high common interest and related to regional and world situations, official sources in Pyongyang and Moscow said,
On the first of his two-day official visit to the DPRK, Lavrov met earlier with his DPRK counterpart Choe Son Hui. On that occasion, the head of the Russian diplomacy affirmed that after “the historic summit” between Kim Jong Un and President Vladimir Putin (last September) “we can confidently say that these relations have reached a qualitative new, strategic level”.
Lavrov recalled that the former Soviet Union played a key role in the liberation of Korea from Japanese colonial rule, it was also the first to recognize the DPRK and then provided it with support in the development of its economy, science, culture, and education.
From September 12 to 18, the DPRK Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the DPRK visited Russian armament factories, rocket, air and naval defense units, space exploration and research centers.
