Cuba strengthens relations with China’s e-commerce platform

Beijing, Oct 18 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas paid an official visit to the headquarters of the e-commerce platform JD, in which Cuba is being represented at the Excelencias de Cuba Pavilion.

According to diplomatic sources in China, Cabrisas, who also serves as Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Minister, had a gainful meeting with Li Ge, JG´s high-level advisor.

Cabrisas recently started off a working visit to China during which he will co-chair the 30th Session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Commercial and Financial Relations.

The Commission will strengthen relations between the two nations, review and project the main issues of mutual interest, including those related to the scientific-technical area and bilateral cooperation.

As part of his work agenda, Cabrisas toured the facilities of the joint venture Biotech Pharmaceutical Limited (PBL) and talked with the staff of the state mission in Beijing.

Cuba seeks to expand its presence in China’s e-commerce platform JD.com, where several Latin American products are now more widely accepted by Chinese consumers.

Speaking to Prensa Latina, Cuba’s Ambassador to China Alberto Blanco underscored that it was a milestone for bilateral relations to have officially launched the Excelencias Cuba section within JD.com in April 2022.

This is one of the most widely used e-commerce platforms in this nation, with two decades of creation it receives every day about 20 million purchase orders and has about 600 million loyal users.

“According to JG´s Boards of Directors, Cuban products are consolidated in China and are increasingly accepted, including honey, different brands of rum and coffee; so we are currently expanding the possibilities to cosmetics and guayaberas, so we show the potential of Cuba for the consumer here,” the ambassador said.

The diplomatic chief assured that China is one of the main destinations for the trade of goods of the Caribbean country, a cooperation that also expands to the trade of services such as tourism and cultural, educational and sports spaces.
