Guterres spoke of the growing inequalities and the climate crisis that affects the world, urging to identify solutions for economic development with 21st century solutions.

“The BRI has shown resilience and sustainability,” he said, and advocated for modern connectivity systems that can offer development opportunities and quality jobs.

The Secretary General called to strengthen the sustainability of developing countries, since “many have enormous fiscal debts.”

Guterres advocated for the reform of the global financial architecture and emphasized on the immediate measures to be taken so as to prevent countries from falling into unsustainable debts,”.

According to him, the BRI has undeniable importance, as it provides for the construction of over three thousand projects and their coordination with the fulfillment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
