A report published on Tuesday in Granma newspaper adds that the international project Integrating Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Change Mitigation in the Sustainable Development of Tourism in Cuba, stimulating the saving of energy carriers, is currently focused on Varadero and Jardines del Rey resorts, Cuba’s most important sun and beach destinations.
The coordinator of the initiative in the northern cay of Ciego de Avila province, Evelyn Marichal, said that they pursue the rational use of water and electricity.
Regarding the efficient management of the vital liquid, they advocate on monthly monitoring and recording, the incorporation of meters by areas to determine where the highest expenses are generated, and the definition of indicators aimed at checking the behavior of consumption in relation to people and days.
They are also committed to achieving greater systematization in the maintenance of supply networks, both those that carry water to these places and those available inside the tourist facilities.
