After a telephone conversation held last Sunday with his Palestinian counterpart, Mahmud Abbas, Maduro announced the sending of more than 30 tons of humanitarian aid in the coming days to the Gaza Strip.
A statement from the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that this is part of the beginning of a “plan of direct and constant support” to the Palestinian people through established humanitarian channels.
Maduro proposed last nigh,t during the “Con Maduro +” radio and television program, that an “urgent, emergency international conference, a peace conference” be convened, in which the great powers, plus Palestine and Israel, should participate. He also expressed his wishes that a beneficial agreement to all peoples and all parties be reached so as to stop hatred, violence, and war.
Regarding his conversation with Abbas, Maduro stated that he confirmed the absolute support of the Venezuelan people and Government for the Palestinian cause, for the independence, self-determination and the existence of a Palestinian State.
He reiterated his full support for the agreements adopted by the United Nations and the Security Council, which are an international obligation and establish the creation of two States, with East Jerusalem as the capital, and the 1967 borders.
During the talks, the leaders urged the international community and the UN authorities to assume, with “strength and courage”, a role as guarantors of the said legality, as the only route to achieve peace and fulfill the mandate of solidifying the Palestinian State.
