International cooperation forum on Belt and Road begins in China

Beijing, Oct 17 (Prensa Latina) Representatives from over 140 nations and 30 world organizations are participating in the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

This is the most important diplomatic event organized by China in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and is focused on highlighting the results of the megaproject in favor of global development.

“The Belt and Road Initiative is investing in infrastructure, but it is also increasing connectivity and bringing knowledge from people to people. I think it is important that there is learning from the Chinese experience for other countries, and also the South-South cooperation,” according to Ghada Waly, Director General of the United Nations Office in Vienna.

The BRI is the most important Chinese initiative in favor of connectivity with different land and maritime routes, mainly throughout Africa, Europe and Asia.

The inclusion of Latin America, and later the Caribbean, as part of the Maritime Silk Road responded to the interest of incorporating new subjects, promoting multilateralism and favoring the creation of infrastructures.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, over the past 10 years, the megaproject has followed the principles of broad consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, as well as a sustainable people-centered approach.

The Foreign Ministry recalled that the initiative is aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations and is synergized with the strategies of several countries.
