Through a statement issued by the state-run KCNA news agency, Pyongyang denounced that the conduct of large-scale military maneuvers in the Japanese archipelago and adjacent waters are aimed at training troops and completing attack capabilities.
He pointed out that other signs are the constant increase in the military budget -it already represents two percent of the Gross Domestic Product-, the entry of sophisticated armaments such as aircraft carriers and state-of-the-art stealth fighters, and the militarization of the cosmos, cyberspace and the electromagnetic wave field.
The statement recalled that in December last year Japan approved a new national security strategy that “legalized” attacks on any potential enemy, and that with the same objective last August Washington, Tokyo and Seoul signed an agreement to carry out military exercises every year.
To realize its military ambitions, he said, Japan ” interferes in the internal affairs of other countries, joining the hegemonic strategy of the United States” under pretext of its right to the possession of various territories or waters and maritime security.
Tokyo’s “arrogant actions” will generate “new security challenges and aggravate tensions on the Korean Peninsula,” the statement warned.
It said that the DPRK armed forces are closely following every move of Japan which, forgetful of its defeat (during the Korean War), intends to return its flag to the Korean peninsula.
The war against Japanese colonialism lasted 20 years and ended with the liberation of the country 78 years ago on August 15, 1945.
The United States, South Korea and Japan have increased the number and strength of their joint military exercises in 2023 to “contain the growing nuclear threats” of the DPRK, according to which the strengthening of its defense system is a legitimate act in the face of the obvious plans to attack it.
