24 health facilities in the enclave, including six hospitals, were damaged since the start of Israeli bombings, on October 7th, according to a statement published by the organization, which also highlighted that three of the medical centers located in the northern area had to be evacuated.
The UN institution also highlighted that “As of Saturday afternoon, almost 600,000 internally displaced people in awful conditions were housed in central and southern Gaza. That number has increased significantly since then,”
OCHA stated that Israel partially resumed water supply in the south of the Gaza Strip on Sunday. Concern about dehydration and diseases transmitted by brackish water is high given the collapse of water and sanitation services, including the closure, in recent hours, of the last operating desalination plant in Gaza.
OCHA cited data from the Gaza Ministry of Public Works, which announced that 7,000 homes in the Gaza Strip were destroyed and another 4,887 were damaged or left uninhabitable.
It also highlighted that as of October 13th, 144 educational facilities were hit by airstrikes, including 20 schools of the United Nations Relief and Works agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.
Eleven mosques were attacked and destroyed, and seven churches and mosques were damaged, it added.
The institution criticized Israeli bombings against residential buildings in densely populated areas, as well as the launching of rockets by Palestinian militias against Israel. It also criticized the air strikes against water and sanitation facilities, and the damage to wells, pumping stations, a reservoir and a desalination plant that supplied more than 1.1 million people.
