Cuba’s Aragón Orchestra to perform in Los Pinos, Mexico City

Mexico City, Oct 12 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's Orchestra Aragon, will perform at the Heliport of Los Pinos Cultural Complex in the Chapultepec Forest in Mexico City on Friday.

The orchestra’s performance is part of the so-called Circuito Cervantino, a cultural activity that includes folklore, music, literature, and other specialties that is extended to almost all Mexican states.

The organizers have pointed out that this time, the circuit of performances will include dance, music, and theater in the country’s different cities to promote, strengthen, and disseminate the diversity of cultural and artistic events.

The Circuito Cervantino, to take place in Guadalajara, has made it possible for the Festival of the same name, to be held nationwide, thanks to the collaboration of cultural institutions.

Organizers point out that musician Orestes Aragón founded the Aragón Orchestra in Cienfuegos in 1939, and the band uses “charanga” music with the traditional sound of the Cuban son.

They recalled that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) awarded the Aragón Orchestra with the Pablo Picasso Medal and declared the music group a World Heritage in 2005.
