Caribe Plus Magazine announces poetry contest winners

Sigmund-Griffith
Roseau, Oct 4 (Prensa Latina) Caribe Plus magazine announced the winners of its 2023 poetry contest, local media Dominica News Online published today.

First place went to Sigmund Griffith, from Saint Lucia, with “Caribbean Cry”, while second place went to Sheba Sooko from Trinidad and Tobago, but originally from Aruba with “The Dreamer”.

Both were surprised, because in the case of Griffith, he confessed that he had not written in a long time and saw in this call an opportunity to try.

For her part, Sooko had dabbled in poetry during her time at the Trinidad and Tobago Poets Society, but this is the first time in a long time, maybe in 12 or 13 years, she told the digital newspaper. .

Although she has already participated in contests, she “feels very good to do it again,” she said.

Another award went to Shane Jitta, also from Trinidad and Tobago, with The Zemis, a poem that she described as epic.

For Jitta it was his first foray into poetry and at a regional level, for which he thanked the magazine for “the possibility of exploring that space on any topic or genre.”

The Caribe Plus awards ceremony will be on October 7, starting at 10:30, local time, on its Facebook and YouTube pages, where you will learn more about the winners and the jury.
