Niger accepts initiative to solve crisis according to Algeria’s plan

Algiers, Oct 2 (Prensa Latina) Niger's authorities accepted to synthesize in six months the period of transition to constitutionality proposed by Algeria, as announced by the Algerian Foreign Ministry.

The Algerian Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Niger, has been notified that the Algerian initiative for a political solution to the crisis in the sister country has been accepted.

The communication adds that Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune instructed Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf to initiate the steps for the preparation of negotiations between the parties involved in Niamey.

Weeks ago, Minister Attaf and other senior officials were dispatched by President Tebboune to the capital of Niger and those of other African States to find a negotiated solution to the crisis triggered by the overthrow manu militari of President Mohamed Bazoum on July 26.

The defenestration of the president, accused of the deterioration of the security situation and “poor management of economic and social affairs” in Niger, caused a violent reaction from the Economic Commission of West African States (ECOWAS), which threatened to take military actions to restore Bazzoum to power, with the discreet support of France.
