DPRK rejects IAEA resolution

Pyongyang, Oct 2 (Prensa Latina) The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Monday rejected a resolution from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that questions the country's efforts to strengthen its nuclear defense system.

A statement from the Ministry of Atomic Energy Industry charged that the document, adopted on September 29 at the 67th IAEA Assembly Meeting, ‘results from the complicity of the United States and its satellites.’

The DPRK accused the IAEA of becoming a venal entity that has abandoned its mission and impartiality, with which ‘it has no right or justification to question the exercise of sovereignty by our State.’ It noted that at the last meeting of the Supreme People’s Assembly, the DPRK’s Constitution enshrined its right to develop nuclear weapons for deterrence purposes and to ensure its sovereignty and peace and stability in the region and the world.

This reality will never be altered no matter who denies it, the Ministry of Atomic Energy Industry stressed, recalling that in the early 1990s, the DPRK withdrew from the IAEA due to its ongoing actions against the DPRK and its adherence to the US hostile campaign.

As proof of this assertion, with the intention of ingratiating itself with Washington and the West, the IAEA has fueled rumors about an eventual and imminent seventh nuclear test by the DPRK, the Ministry added.

If it does not want to be seen by the international community as a venal herald of the United States,” the statement said, “the IAEA should not worry about such futile things as fabricating anti-DPRK reports and resolutions.

It would be better to concentrate on solving such serious problems as nuclear proliferation (…), the dumping of contaminated water by Japan and the expansion of the US test range, the document advised.
