The head of the sector highlighted that, according to information from the Migration Policy Unit of the Ministry of the Interior, this figure also exceeds arrivals recorded during the January-August 2019 period, by 12,9 percent, when 13,177,000 international tourists were registered.
He indicated that the main countries in international tourist arrivals by air to Mexico from January to August 2023, were the United States, Canada and Colombia, with 11,475,000.
The Secretary of Tourism informed that, during this period, Cancun, Mexico City International Airport and Los Cabos were the airports that received the highest number of international tourists, with 11,375,000, that is, 6,4 percent more than in the first eight months of 2022.
He highlighted that the increase in the arrival of international tourists contributes to detonate the activity and economic spillover for the benefit of the local population, thus complying with the instruction of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to make tourism a tool for social reconciliation.
