The families and the organizations supporting them decided to break camp after it became known that a new presidential instruction was issued for the Army to search for and deliver the information that had been requested from them.
Before leaving, the protesters demanded that a criminal investigation be opened against former President Enrique Peña Nieto, the former Secretary of the Interior Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong, and the former head of the Secretariat of National Defense Salvador Cienfuegos, among others.
The aforementioned participated in a meeting of authorities in October 2014, in which the “historical truth” was constructed. This truth was a farce to dismantle the judicial process and free from guilt those responsible, as revealed by the results of the investigations of the Commission for Truth and Access to the Justice of the Ayotzinapa case.
At a press conference, the protesters explained that the Commission’s report opens a dialogue route with the authorities so as to continue, regarding the investigations, to find the whereabouts of their children; however, they warned that they decided to lift the sit-in “hoping that the voice of Mr. Alejandro Encinas – head of the Commission – does have an echo and pierce this door so that the documentation can be delivered.”
Regarding the criminal investigation, lawyer Vidulfo Rosales pointed out that it must be exhaustive, that the persons responsible be prosecuted and punished. He also argued that prosecutor Jesús Murillo Karam (the only prisoner in the case), and Tomas Zerón (former head of the Criminal Investigation Agency and currently a fugitive in Israel) could not have acted on their own.
