Honduras to receive loan to strengthen hospital network

Tegucigalpa, Sep 28 (Prensa Latina) The Government of Honduras will receive a loan of 150 million dollars from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to strengthen the country's hospital network, the local press reported today.

The loan approved by the IDB, which will have a disbursement period of six years and an interest rate of 0.25 percent, is intended to finance the construction and equipping of general hospitals in the municipalities of Roatán, Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula, reported TV channel 8.

The health care centers to be located in the municipalities of Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula will also be co-financed by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency.

According to Honduran authorities, the program seeks to improve the effectiveness and access to specialized maternal and child hospital services, care for external injuries and non-communicable diseases.

The operation includes the training of healthcare personnel in clinical skills and competencies for the implementation of these hospitals, including nurses, general practitioners and specialists.
