UN calls for best practices for universal access to information

United Nations, Sep 28 (Prensa Latina) The debate on the right to information, the challenges posed by the advance of artificial intelligence, and the best practices for its use focus Thursday the commemoration of International Day for Universal Access to Information.

In this context, particular attention should be paid to the fundamental role of this guarantee for development, democracy, and equality, highlighting rapid technological development.

According to the United Nations, artificial intelligence and e-governance can play essential roles in improving access to information in an ever-increasing digital world.

They can help bridge the digital divide by providing citizens with tailor-made and readily accessible information.

For the United Nations, universal access to information means everyone has the right to seek, receive, and impart information.

The date was established in 2015 at the initiative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), while the UN General Assembly also adopted the commemoration in 2019.
