Venezuelans support Nicolás Maduro and the defense of Essequibo (+Photo)

Caracas, Sep 26 (Prensa Latina) Thousands of Venezuelans summoned by the United Socialist Party (PSUV) today expressed their support for the Government of Nicolás Maduro and the defense of the Essequibo territory, in dispute with Guyana.

In a compact march, workers, PSUV militants and people in general walked through central avenues of this capital to the headquarters of the vice presidency of the Republic, where vice president Delcy Rodríguez rejected the interventionist actions against the Bolivarian Revolution.

The Minister of Economy, Planning and Foreign Trade also thanked the celebration of the march because it is a support for President Nicolás Maduro, in rejection of the sanctions against the country and affirmed these must be lifted because they are illegal under international law.

Rodríguez also thanked the people for their “great support” in defense of “our sacred land of Essequibo” and pointed out that no one gave that territory to us, but rather they fought for it, forged it and we continue to defend it day by day.

She denounced that the empires of yesterday are the same as those of today, that they have served as instruments and subordinates to the oil and gas transnationals.

The land dispossession was not enough for them, but they are also going for the maritime territory, which has yet to be delimited, said the vice president in reference to Venezuela’s historical dispute with neighboring Guyana.

The executive vice president highlighted that the workers caused a historic injury by defeating the unilateral coercive measures and the blockade, and recognized them as the “most important shield” of the country because they have never given up and have faith in the future.

The Venezuelan people in union have risen up to tell Washington and the West that with Venezuela “they will not be able to”, they will not pass with the working class who, with their heads held high, accompany the president.

Regarding the call from extremist sectors of the opposition for students not to go to classrooms at the beginning of the school year, Rodríguez stated that “with the workers we tell them that we go to class” and congratulated teachers for ratifying their commitment to teaching .

The leadership of the Bolivarian Socialist Workers’ Central delivered a document to the vice president, in which they ratified the unity of the country together with President Nicolás Maduro.

During the mobilization, workers from the oil sector expressed that Essequibo is ours and Venezuelans “will defend it even with our lives”, together in the defense of our country, they stated. Here are the people who will defend the Essequibo territory through the consultative referendum, said a cement worker, in reference to the constitutional call approved unanimously in the National Assembly (parliament) last Thursday.
