In a statement, FOCUS condemned the “barbaric acts directed against Cuba inside the United States perpetrated by anti-Cuba groups, who most of the time are never held accountable in that country when they are arrested.”
The organization also expressed its solidarity and support for the people and Government of Cuba, following the “cowardly terrorist attack” perpetrated by an unidentified individual who threw two Molotov cocktails from the sidewalk over the perimeter fence of the facility. The Cuban Embassy, like that of any country, must be protected under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which requires that the United States, as the host country, takes all the appropriate measures to protect the mission’s facilities from intrusion or damage, in addition to preventing any disturbances of the peace of the mission or impairment of its dignity.
In its letter, FOCUS recalled that it is not the first attack on the Cuban Embassy in Washington, while the host, the United States, does nothing to ensure that it does not happen again.
These attacks come at a time when FOCUS and many other solidarity organizations around the world are calling on the United States to remove Cuba from its State Sponsors of Terrorist list,” the South African friendship society added.
As can be seen, it is Cuba that has been the victim of terrorism inside and outside its territory for many years, FOCUS added.
Consequently, “we urge the United States to do everything possible to bring those responsible to justice and to ensure the safety of all Cuban diplomats” in that nation, FOCUS emphasized.
