Mexico warns at UNGA of collapse migrant centers´ capacities

United Nations, Sep 22 (Prensa Latina) Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alicia Barcena on Friday urged at UNGA for treating migration from its structural causes.

Mexico expects to receive 140,000 migrants in 2023, mostly from the known Darien Gap, which confirms the migrany flow surge, Barcena stated at a press conference.

Given this scenario, Barcena harped on the pressing need to work alongside the UN for a more active involvement in this regard.

The Mexican Secretary announced recent meetings with UNHCR and IOM representatives during her visit to the United States.

The secretary revealed the plan is to work along with authorities from countries as Panama and Costa Rica to assist migrants on their passage before arriving in Mexico.
