The former officials and several social activists considered that the numbers provided are not reliable, so they released a statement warning that such an evaluation should be conducted by international universities and not by the INEC’s officials themselves because they would be judge and party.
Former INEC’s Director Byron Villacis stated to the Radio La Calle website that it is normally acceptable to omit 2% or 3%. Thus, if we take the current INEC’s data, it would seem they did not census 15% of the population.
In his opinion, they used different methods to register citizens and even the census takers filled in the forms with information obtained by WhatsApp or with data provided by neighbors if a home was closed. After multiple setbacks and delays, past Thursday the INEC released the results of the census arriving 12 years after the last study of such type.
