Henry noted the delay in sharing information on epidemics, pathogens and genomic sequences during the high-level meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response taking place at United Nations headquarters on the sidelines of the 78th General Assembly.
These difficulties oblige us to commit ourselves to reaching an agreement on reliable and lasting financing, technical support, technology transfer and equitable allocation of vital resources, Henry said.
He stressed that the aim of this is to ensure universal and equitable access to safe, effective and affordable vaccines, medicines and diagnostic products in order to protect future generations.
He also insisted that the agreement on pandemics to be adopted soon is a necessity and advocated for the transformation of international health law, emphasizing equity and the adoption of a health strategy that allows for the strengthening of national systems and universal health coverage.
“Haiti urges all nations to seize this historic and unique opportunity in order to make the world a safer and above all a more just place, failure to do so will be the responsibility of our generation,” the Minister of Communication warned.
He also emphasized the need for mutual solidarity and shared obligations. “No one will be safe unless everyone is safe,” the head of government concluded.
