Ukrainian government dismisses six deputy defense ministers

Kiev, Sep 18 (Prensa Latina) The Ukrainian Government dismissed six Deputy Ministers of Defense and the Secretary of State of the department, reported today the representative of the Executive in the Verkhovna Rada (Unicameral Parliament of Ukraine), Tarás Melnichuk.

In his Telegram channel, the official wrote that by decision of the government, deputy ministers Vladimir Gavrilov, Vitali Deinega, Anna Maliar, Rostislav Zamlinski, Denis Sharapov and Andrei Shevchenko were dismissed.

The State Secretary of Defense, Konstantin Vaschenko, was also released from his position. At the moment, only First Deputy Minister Aleksánder Pavlyuk retains his position.

According to the website of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, until now there was one first deputy minister and six deputy ministers.

At the beginning of September, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky replaced the previous head of the Ministry of Defense, Aleksei Reznikov, with Rustem Umerov, in the midst of another corruption scandal related to purchases by that department.

At the time, some Ukrainian experts claimed that Zelensky hoped to put an end to the scandal surrounding the Defense Ministry for a while by hoping that the new minister would “put things in order.”

In his first speeches in the Rada and before the staff of the Ministry of Defense, Umerov mentioned digitalization as one of the priorities of his work in his new position, which would allow him to effectively fight corruption.

At the same time, Ukrainian analysts began to speculate about which of the deputy ministers on Reznikov’s team would be dismissed. Many expected the dismissal of Anna Maliar, whose statements repeatedly provoked mixed reactions in Ukrainian society.

Another whose resignation was one of the first to be predicted was that of Denis Sharapov, head of acquisitions.
