Ukrainian president admits serious setbacks in counteroffensive

Kiev, Sep 18 (Prensa Latina) Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky admitted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are in a difficult situation and that the pace of the much-announced counteroffensive is insignificant.

“This is a difficult situation. I will be honest, the counteroffensive is not (going) very fast, and the fighting on the front line has turned into an artillery duel. Each side fires 40 thousand shells a day,” Zelensky said in an interview with the CBS network.

On the other side, the Russian Defense Ministry noted that the Ukrainian Army has been launching unsuccessful offensive attempts since June 4th.

Russian President Vladimir Putin declared on September 12th that Ukraine lost 71,500 soldiers, 543 tanks and almost 18,000 armored vehicles of different types during this period.

Oleg Soskin, former advisor to former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, drew attention to the fact that Zelensky constantly lies about the successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In his opinion, his lies are spread in the country, particularly on television, even if the counteroffensive is not bringing results.

In turn, former Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Sergei Krivonos also railed at the president for creating false optimism around the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
