After calling for mobilization on Saturday, this Sunday’s activities will shift gears to target on how best to support countries to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs.

The day will begin with an opening plenary session, which will serve as a panel discussion on the urgency of the moment, the sense of what is possible and the imperative of collective action.

The intention, according to UN Deputy Secretary Amina J. Mohammed, is to demonstrate that transformative progress is possible and is already happening while building leadership, support, and momentum.

The promise of “leaving no one behind”, a principle of the Development Agenda is in serious trouble as, despite some progress, the gaps in the implementation of the 17 Goals such as the eradication of hunger and extreme poverty by 2030 are greater, the agency warned in a recent press release.
