China urges in Cuba for more development, representation of the South

Havana, Sep 16 (Prensa Latina) China on Saturday urged for placing development at the center of the international agenda and giving greater representation to the countries of the South.

The Chinese official delegation attending the G77+China Summit promoted self-strengthening through unity as well as reinvigoration and joint cooperation in search of shared benefits, as expressed by Li Xi, special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Summit and member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party Central Committee of China.

“China is the world’s largest developing country, no matter what stage of development it is at, it will always be part of the family of developing countries and a member of the Global South,” Li Xi said.

The senior official urged G77 members to strengthen macro policy coordination and focus on cooperation in different areas such as food security, poverty reduction, industrialization, green development, digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

Li Xi also urged for establishing “a cooperative and gain-sharing division of labor system based on our comparative advantages to take a favorable place in global industrial, supply and value chains.”

“China remains committed to building a South-South science-technology cooperation system that is open, inclusive and mutually beneficial,” he added.

In this regard, Li Xi assured that Beijing will expand international exchanges in scientific-technological innovation “with even more open vision and measures so that all nations may be benefitted equally from digital dividends, and no developing country is left behind or absent in the development of new technologies and industries.”

Li Xi stressed that South-South cooperation is a strategic decision and a priority for China.

In this regard, he mentioned the positive impact of the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by Xi 10 years ago, as well as the peace and shared development approach promoted by the Global Development (GDI), Global Civilization (GCI) and Global Security (GSC) initiatives.

“China has provided development assistance to over 160 countries, cooperated with more than 150 countries under the Belt and Road framework and collaborated with more than 100 countries and international organizations to advance the GDI,” he commented.

According to experts, the G77+China Summit, which ends today, helps safeguard the status of the United Nations and enables global governance mechanisms to be effective.
