Honduran president calls for a socialist and democratic state

Tegucigalpa, Sep 16 (Prensa Latina) Honduran President Xiomara Castro on Saturday urged for a more just, socialist and democratic State that respects freedoms and the struggle for independence.

During the celebration for the 202nd anniversary of Honduran independence, Castro reaffirmed her peaceful and democratic commitment so that “coups and narco-dictatorships do not return to her nation”.

In her speech, the Honduran leader stated that the neoliberal governments dismantled the State and handed over the economy to private interests hindering the approval at the National Congress of the Tax Justice Law.

Xiomara Castro referred to the organized crime elites and added such corrupt groups impoverished and indebted the Honduran people, as they amassed large fortunes of money.

She mentioned the lack of council in the Legislative branch and claimed that she does not lose hope of reaching agreements the hemicycle to elect the heads of the Public Ministry and guarantee the permanent struggle against corruption and impunity.

“We must remain united, organized and mobilized in the construction of dialogues and consensus”, she said.
