On X social media, Bruno Rodriguez claimed Cuba’s stance is contained in its legislation and is also against mercenarism.

Recently, Cuba´s Foreign Ministry (MINREX) reported that Cuba faces human trafficking operations for military recruitment purposes.

In this regard, the Director of MINREX´s Europe and Canada Directorate Ileana Núñez issued a statement on Thursday reaffirming Cuba´s firm historical stance against mercenarism as well as its active role in the United Nations condemning such an illegal practice.

Núñez stressed that Cuban laws are explicit about criminalization of human trafficking, smuggling of migrants and mercenarism.

The diplomat stressed that Cuba is not part of the war in Ukraine.

She stressed that, in view of the arrest of a human trafficking network operating from Russia to include Cuban citizens living there, and even some from Cuba, to the military forces participating in war operations in Ukraine, attempts of this nature have been neutralized and criminal proceedings have been initiated against people involved.

Cuban authorities maintain the exchange with their Russian counterparts on these incidents, taking into account the excellent level of relations existing between both countries with the aim of clearing up these facts, she concluded.
