In a video message to the meeting, the UN chief welcomed the strong commitment to talks and regional partnership confirmed by this meeting as well as the growing platforms for cooperation.
“In a divided world, you are uniquely positioned to build bridges of mutual understanding and contribute to addressing humanity’s challenges, from peace and security to the climate crisis and sustainable development,” Guterres said.
The UN official stressed that cooperation among neighbors is essential to effective climate action, countering transnational threats, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and building inclusive economies and societies.
Guterres welcomed Central Asia’s support for the UN’s efforts towards a more inclusive multilateralism and called to support the discussions on reinventing global governance in the upcoming UN High-Level Week.
