Canadian Prime Minister remains in India due to aircraft breakdown

Justin-Trudeau-768x450
Ottawa, Sep 11 (Prensa Latina) The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, remains in India after the Canadian delegation's plane was suspended due to technical problems, the media reported today.

Trudeau had planned to leave this Sunday after finishing the G20 summit in New Delhi, CTC News points out.

However, during pre-flight checkups, the Canadian Armed Forces grounded aircraft CFC001 due to a technical issue that could not be resolved overnight.

The Department of National Defense (DND) explained the maintenance problem involves a component that will have to be replaced.

“The safety of all passengers is paramount and pre-flight security checkups are a regular part of all of our flight protocols,” the department wrote in a statement.

“The discovery of this problem is proof that these protocols are effective,” he says.

Government sources affirm that the “most possible” departure of the prime minister and the Canadian delegation could be on Tuesday afternoon, the aforementioned media reports.

If the aircraft cannot be repaired, sources indicate the government has contingency plans, but they may not be able to get the prime minister back to Canada so quickly.

The delay means there’s a chance Trudeau will miss at least part of his Liberal Caucus retreat set to begin Wednesday morning.

This is not the first time that the Airbus has caused problems for the president and his delegation.

In October 2016, the plane ran into trouble and returned to Ottawa half an hour after taking off with the prime minister, who was headed to Belgium to sign the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between Canada and the European Union.
