On the X platform, formerly Twitter, Abinader expressed his support for King Mohammed VI of Morocco and his people for the tragedy that occurred on Friday, September 8.
“In the name of the Dominican Republic, we send our condolences to the victims’ families. We are united in these difficult times,” the Dominican president wrote on X.
Morocco’s Interior Ministry confirmed on Saturday that casualties had been reported in a dozen provinces, while more than 2,000 people were injured, some in serious condition.
The 6.8-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale is the biggest to hit the country in the last six decades.
