UNCTAD secretary general to participate in G77 Summit in Cuba

Havana, Sep 9 (Prensa Latina) The Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Rebeca Grynspan, will participate in the upcoming Summit of the Group of 77 and China, in Havana, the Cuban Foreign Ministry informed.

The event, to be held on September 15 and 16, will allow working together for the unity and decisive action of the countries of the South, in order to face present and future challenges.

Participants will discuss, among other topics, current development challenges focusing on the role of science, technology and innovation, and the limitations of developing nations in accessing scientific and technical advances.

With 134 member states, the G77 and China represent 80% of the world’s population and more than two-thirds of the membership of the United Nations.

Since January of this year, Cuba assumed, for the first time, the pro tempore presidency of the Group with a commitment to advance the common interests of the South.
