This is the first time that the G20 Summit, which will take place on September 9 and 10, is held under the leadership of India, which has defended among its priorities a greater presence of the Global South and the discussion of the problems that affect these nations.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi told an international media outlet that India has focused on human-centric management since assuming leadership of the G20 to ensure that actions reach everyone.

India’s presidency of the G20 strives to overcome divisions, dismantle barriers and sow seeds of collaboration that will nourish a world where unity prevails over discord, the dignitary said, noting that this period at the helm of the bloc is not just a high-level diplomatic effort for India.

He added that India will maintain the commitment to expanding the bloc in order to guarantee the contributions from all countries and that all voices are heard.

Modi highlighted the Voice of the Global South Summit, held in January, at which 125 countries participated, as one of the fundamental initiatives in this regard.

He pointed out that India has not only seen the largest participation of African nations to date in the events convened during its presidency, but has also pushed for the inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member of the G20.
