Rodríguez was received by the director general of the Department of Latin America and the Caribbean for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cai Wei, and the Venezuelan ambassador to China, Giuseppe Yoffreda.
China and Venezuela have maintained diplomatic relations for 49 years, but in 2001 they assumed a strategic nature when the High Level Mixed Commission was installed as a mechanism to strengthen collaboration in areas of common interest.
According to official sources, the two countries have held 16 joint meetings that allowed the signing of 502 agreements in the areas of energy, mining, agriculture, economy, trade, culture, science, technology, aerospace, and politics, among others.
The Bolivarian Government has expressed on several occasions its unrestricted support for China in international policies and expressed in different opportunities that it abides by the One China principle.
President of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro recently stressed that “very soon” China will become the “biggest and most powerful economic power in the entire world”.
