Haitian police grateful for supply of equipment

Port-au-Prince, Sep 5 (Prensa Latina) The National Union of Haitian Police Officers expressed gratitude for the supply of equipment, and stated that it will be very helpful in the fight against armed groups.

The Police received six armored vehicles ordered over a year ago from the Canadian company Inkas, as well as 500 assault rifles and a donation of 40 SUVs from the Government of the United States.

“The supply of armored vehicles and assault rifles, and the construction of the Petit-Goâve prison, are positive steps in the fight against crime in the country. However, the situation remains complex and concerted actions are needed to restore security and stability in the country,” Union Coordinator Lionel Lazarre noted.

Given the escalation of violence in Haiti, particularly in the capital and the Artibonite department, Lazarre insisted on the urgency to take forceful actions by the Police in areas such as Grand Ravine, Tabarre, Canaán, Carrefour Feuilles, among others.

He also urged authorities to assume their responsibilities to end the “descent into hell,” and criticized major institutions, which he described as dysfunctional.

“Tourists leave the country, the population constantly flees their homes, the situation is unsustainable,” he stated.
