During the last week, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero and other authorities of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Government toured the damaged areas and verified that the fulfillment of the preventive measures allowed avoiding the loss of human lives and minimizing economic losses.
In Pinar del Río, Idalia affected 80% of the electric distribution lines, and it is expected to reestablish that service this weekend, thanks to the support of the territory’s own forces and the help of brigades of linemen from the provinces of Matanzas, Ciego de Avila, Camagüey, Villa Clara and Las Tunas.
There, more than a thousand houses were affected, mainly due to partial loss of roofs.
In the province of Artemisa, east of Havana, electricity service, the main damage caused by this meteorological event, was fully restored, and except in certain non-significant banana-growing areas, agriculture was hardly damaged. On Thursday, President Miguel Díaz-Canel stressed the need to restore electricity as soon as possible in the areas flooded by heavy rains and to do the same to reverse everything that was affected in terms of communications, as well as the importance of paying special attention to crops.
