Argentinians need to preserve historical memory

Buenos Aires, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) Argentine Secretary of Human Rights Horacio Pietragalla assured on Wednesday that it is worth continuing to build historical memory to defend our democracy by the time hatred speeches are trying to defuse the horrors in the past.

Pietragalla attended a ceremony for the International Day of the Detained-Missing Persons, during which tribute was paid to the victims of State terrorism, especially those of the last civil-military dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983).

On Wednesday, FM Santiago Cafiero warned on a recorded message that forced missing persons continue to be a reality in all regions worldwide.

Those practices, which may constitute crimes against humanity, deprive the victims’ relatives of being aware of the truth about what really happened, and also thwart justice from being done.

The FM also recognized the work carried out by civil society groups and human rights defenders, who play an indispensable role in alerting and documenting the cases.
