PRI President Alejandro Moreno said on Tuesday that he would announce this Wednesday whether the veteran legislator would remain as a pre-candidate to compete against Xóchitl Gálvez of the National Action Party (PAN).
If so, he will be confirming what President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador long revealed when he said that the popular election by poll set up by the Front was a farce.
Moreno said on Tuesday that according to polls, Paredes has no chance of competing with Gálvez, and the possibility of her resignation in favor of the PAN candidate would be seen this Wednesday, the culmination of the agreed script to leave the senator alone, which, according to the president, has been fulfilled step by step.
However, in a later statement, Paredes said that she would not resign and would participate in the poll, although she clarified that one wins or loses in elections as if to prepare the public for her defeat.
