New Delhi, Aug 25 (Prensa Latina) The Disaster Management Authority of Himachal Pradesh reported that 109 houses were completely damaged during the last 24 hours by heavy rains that continue to hit the northern Indian state.

The water level of rivers and streams continues to rise and, due to landslides in several districts, hundreds of communication routes, including two national highways, were blocked, according to the source.

Meteorological Center director Shimla Surendra Paul said adverse weather conditions would persist and issued a yellow alert in the state.

In the past two months, 367 people have died, 343 were injured and 40 remain missing due to floods, landslides and property collapses.

According to the disaster center, the rains and associated events have caused a loss in Himachal Pradesh of 8 billion 450 million rupees, some 102 million dollars, .

Local media reported that the authorities evacuated, with the help of Indian Air Force helicopters, villages such as Khonalal, where more than a dozen houses, temples, schools and farms were destroyed in the last three days.

The Patkari power plant in the village of Seraj in Fahad was totally damaged by the floods and dozens of localities have no supply of drinking water.

Numerous people are receiving free food and lodging in relief camps, officials said.
