DPRK condemns US efforts to create Asian version of NATO

Pyongyang, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) said that the United States' efforts to create an Asian version of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are doomed to failure.

A statement by DPRK Defense Minister Kang Sun Nam noted that these intentions were evidenced when the leaders of the US, Japan and South Korea met at Camp David on August 18 to strengthen trilateral cooperation on the war in Ukraine.

At a subsequent press conference, (US President) Joe Biden called on the international community to stop “the Russian invasion of Ukraine” on the pretext that a similar event could also occur in Asia, the statement recalled.

Kang denounced Washington’s intentions to set up “an Asian version of NATO” using Japan and Korea and, in line with its strategies against Russia and China, in order to use those countries’ armies as cannon fodder to realize its ambitions for world domination.

The North Korean official also dismissed Washington’s accusations of an alleged “arms deal” with Moscow following Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu’s recent visit to the DPRK and alleged violations of United Nations sanctions against the Asian nation.

Kang supported Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, and regarding relations with other countries, he reminded that Pyongyang has never recognized the UN sanctions because these are matters that concern the DPRK’s self-defense.
