Responding to a question from Prensa Latina, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin stressed China’s willingness to deepen political trust, expand practical cooperation, and intensify strategic coordination to promote further development based on the exceptional friendship between the two countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the meeting between President Xi Jinping and his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel, on the sidelines of the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
During the meeting, Xi described Díaz-Canel’s State visit to China in November 2022 as successful. Both leaders reached a consensus on deepening bilateral relations and agreed to work together to build a China-Cuba community with a shared future.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry appreciated Cuba’s support on issues affecting China’s fundamental interests and its support for the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by Xi.
Wang appreciated Cuba’s work as Chair of the Group of 77 (G-77) plus China, said that this country attaches great importance to the group’s summit in September, and expressed the willingness to continue working with Cuba to ensure its realization.
During the two leaders’ meeting, Díaz-Canel highlighted Beijing’s role in the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) and conveyed the Cuban people’s admiration for Xi and China.
