Peruvian law cracks down officials’ corruption

peru-1-768x512
Lima, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) A general and the head of Congress joined a former minister on Wednesday as protagonists of alleged corruption reported publicly this week in Peru.

The list includes the chief of staff of the important First Army Region, headquartered in the northern Piura City of Piura, General Henry Acosta, the head of Parliament Alejandro Soto, and former Labor Minister Luis Adrianzen.

Acosta is being investigated for the sale to merchants of fuel allocated to the operations of safeguarding polling stations and transferring material for both the municipal elections of October 2022, and the complementary elections of December 2022.

Meanwhile, the Prosecutor’s Office opened Wednesday a file to look into the head of Congress Alejandro Soto for the alleged crime of extortion, after it was revealed that Soto used officials of his office to defend him, undercover in Internet networks, from the serious accusations of concealment of negative judicial records, among others.

The Prosecutor’s Office is also investigating former Minister Adrianzen for authorizing the payment of 41 million soles (over $11 million) to a company that supplied medical material, a payment that was frozen because the delivery had not been made on time.
