“The Brics is neither a counterpoint to the G7 (group of seven, made up of Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom), nor to the G20 (made up of the 20 most industrialized and emerging countries), nor against anyone,” Lula wrote on the social network X, formerly Twitter.

He noted that the bloc wants to organize itself “as the Global South, something that did not exist before. We are important in the world debate, sitting at the negotiating table, on an equal footing with the European Union and the United States,” he remarked.

On Tuesday, Lula started the first of three days of activities during the 15th Summit of Brics leaders in South Africa.

According to Ambassador Eduardo Saboia, the Summit will debate three main topics. First, the expansion of the bloc, an issue on which Lula suggested the possibility that Saudi Arabia and Argentina join the group.

Second, the visibility of African problems. In this regard, the Brazilian leader advocates a rapprochement among the countries of the region.

Third, the discussion on the use of a common currency for commercial transactions among the Brics member States.
