President Boric decrees state of catastrophe in some Chilean regions (+Photo)

Santiago de Chile, Aug 21 (Prensa Latina) Chilean President Gabriel Boric decreed on Monday a state of catastrophe in O'Higgins, Maule, Ñuble and Bio Bio regions, affected by a frontal system that caused rains, floods and human and material damages.

Boric stated that the measure will allow a greater ease and fluidity of resources for the areas of the center-southern Chile, impacted by the weather phenomenon.

After heading the crisis committee, the president pointed out the current government priorities are to save lives and then help those who need it most.

The storm has so far caused two deaths, over 800 victims and some 30,000 people isolated due to the cutting of roads.

In Linares City, the growing current of a river triggered the Tres Arcos Bridge to collapse, leaving the sectors of the foothills of the Andes cut off from the commune.

There are also 416 people in shelters, damage to houses, educational and health centers.

Boric further announced that from September 4, the State will begin to pay a bonus for 12,680 farmers who suffered damages.
