Arevalo wins by a landslide victory Guatemala’s elections

Guatemala City, Aug 21 (Prensa Latina) Semilla’s party representative Bernardo Arevalo won by a landslide victory Guatemalan elections grounded in different entities’ support which makes his way to presidency stronger.

Amid a campaign of discredit and misinformation, the 64 year-old former diplomat obtained 58.05% of the votes (2, 441, 661), over 20 points higher than Sandra Torres, representing the National Unity of Hope (UNE).

Torres, former first lady, had arrived for the third time to a second electoral round, and she just reached 37.24% (1,567,472), according to 100% of all votes.

Data from the Preliminary Electoral Results Transmission System (TREP) of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) stated a citizen participation of 45.10%, somewhat above what was reported in 2019.

Meanwhile, current Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei acknowledged Semilla’s victory and made himself available for the beginning of the transition on January 14, 2024.
