The International Colloquium about The Sounds of Cultural Identity takes place at Casa de África, in the historic center of Havana, with the participation of Miguel Barnet, President of the Fernando Ortiz Foundation and Honorary President of the National Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC).
Sonia Pérez, president of the Museum of Music; Laura Vilar, director of the Center of Investigation and Development of Cuban Music; and Brazilian musician, researcher, and ethnomusicologist Marcos Santos, who presents “Entre Tambores: Brazil-Cuba,” with a musical demonstration, are also included.
Rumba Morena band and the Madre Agua dance music project from Old Havana municipality will perform at Casa de África.
Later, Zanqueros Habana and Estatuas Vivientes, with their typical Havana characters, will accompany an activity from Obrapía Street to the Museum of Music.
Artists from the Brazilian region of Salvador de Bahia and Mexico are participating in this international event, which will be held in ten Cuban provinces, bringing the sounds of the African heritage present in many Latin American countries.
