The Collective, formed by the National Union for Integrity and Reconciliation, the Organization of the People in Struggle, Tet Kale and Pitit Dessalines, among other parties, claimed that those gangs operate “under the irresponsible gaze of authorities” who did not react to crack them down.

“Such a behavior shows that authorities are accomplices to the population’s massacre,” the organization noted.

It compared the leaders’ attitude to a crime against the whole society and recalled that earlier, Carrefour Feuilles and other areas of the capital, like Bel Air, La Salin, Delmas 2, Canaan and Cité Soleil, were attacked by gangs.

The Collective called on the police to restore order and security in Haiti, and urged the current Government to take the necessary measures to assist thousands of displaced people due to violence.

The Carrefour Feuilles commune, southwest of Port-au-Prince, has been under fire from gangs in recent weeks, and attacks have increased since last Friday.

The gangs that operate in Grand Ravine, on the southern outskirts of Port-au-Prince, are trying to take control of Savane Pistachio and establish their stronghold.

Consequently, some fifteen people were murdered, dozens were injured; in addition to girls and women who were victims of gang rapes, the Center for Analysis and Research on Human Rights denounced. jg/omr/lam/ane
