“Even though the United Nations (UN) body aims at supporting over 17 million people in need in that country, the shortage of budget is jeopardizing this goal,” warned Edem Wosornu.
“Over the last few months, Yemen’s Humanitarian Response Plan has received $1.34 billion of the $4.34 billion it needs, which covers just 31%,” he added.
During the Security Council session on the Middle East situation, particularly in Yemen, the representative renewed the call to the sides to fulfill their commitments to facilitate the passage of humanitarian aid to people in need.
Meanwhile, the UN Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg reported that despite the truce expiration in October, he called on the sides to refrain from escalation and instead leveraging the dialogue channels set under the truce through the Armed Forces Coordination Committee to de-escalate incidents.
