Cuba solidarity organizations demand end of US blockade

Tegucigalpa, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) Solidarity movements from Latin America and the Caribbean demanded an end of the United States blockade against Cuba, which prevents the country's development, in the framework of the 3rd Central America Cuba Solidarity Meeting.

Participants demanded Cuba’s exclusion from Washington’s States Sponsors of Terrorism list, which violates international law and seeks to stifle the economy and the development of Cuban society together with the blockade.

Over 100 representatives from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Honduras demanded the return of the territory illegally occupied by the US military base in Guantanamo against the will of the Cuban people and Government.

They also committed to promoting the unity and integration of solidarity movements, and rejected everything that divides them, in order to contribute to the construction of the Great Homeland and consolidate an anti-imperialist front in the region.

Participants interviewed by Prensa Latina said that the meeting was an opportunity to agree on actions and review what else they can do in Cuba’s defense.

The event was described as successful, and showed the combativeness of the delegates in favor of Cuba and against Washington’s unilateral measures.

The final declaration highlights the will to support Cuba in the fight against the blockade imposed by the United States, in addition to other actions.
